- Abstract
- Discontinuous channel measurement can reduce the power consumption of a remote station receiver and enhance the link performance of channel-adaptive random access. Previous research has been limited to the special case when all discontinuous channel measurements are independent of each other. In this paper, performance is investigated for channel-adaptive random access with discontinuous and correlated channel measurements. The performance is evaluated on the detection performance, the transmission delay, and the receiver power consumption of channel adaptive random access. Results show that the analyses provide accurate performance estimations of channel-adaptive random access. As the period for discontinuous channel measurement decreases, the transmission delay of random access decreases, while the link performance degrades. Therefore, it is important to consider the tradeoff between the link performance and the transmission delay to design an efficient channel-adaptive random access scheme.
