Postcolonial Impressions in Jonathan Bennett’s Verandah People

Abstract

This paper seeks to look beyond the mystical elements in W.B. Yeats's A Vision in order to consider what it reveals about the creative process. A Vision arrives at a crucial moment, wedged historically between Yeats's interests in the occult and emerging secular explanations (Freud's theory of the unconscious, for instance) of what lies "beyond" the edges of human consciousness.
