Abstract
We present an enhanced motion estimation and compensation algorithm by prefiltering reference frames before motion estimation. The conventional block based motion estimation algorithm gives poor performance when abrupt motion change occurs. The proposed algorithm constructs prefilters based on motion vector distribution analysis and compensates temporal sampling artifacts, such as blur or deblur, between adjacent frames. Compared to H.264/AVC, the proposed algorithm achieves significant bit-rate reduction up to 14.59%. (c) 2012 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). [DOI: 10.1117/1.OE.51.3.037002]
