Abstract
Sincelastthreedecades,polymerinsulatorshavebeenwidelyinstalledintoACpowergridascribedtotheimprovedelectrical,thermal,andmechanicalpropertiesofpolymermaterials.Inparticular,80%ofnewlyinstalledinsulatorhasadoptedsiliconecompositesbasedontherelatedresearchesbringingaboutapprovedprogressforitsapplicationtoACorDCpowergrid.AccordingtotheexpansionofHVDCgridovertheworld,manyresearchinstituteshaveputtheirintensiveeffortstodevelopsiliconecompositeinsulatorsfortheircommercialapplication.However,veryfewreportshavebeendisclosedfortheinsulationpropertiesofsiliconecompositeunderDCstress.Inthiswork,theanalysisonthevolumeconductivityandDCbreakdownhasbeendonebyuseofsiliconecompositespecimenunderdifferentleveloftemperature.Forthispurpose,experimentalinvestigationhasbeencarriedoutasfollows:forbreakdownstrengthunderDCstressandforvolumeconductivitybymeasuringleakagecurrentunderDC.TheresultswouldbeemployedasoneofthedesignparametersfortheirapplicationtoHVDCgridat500kV
