- Abstract
- Six 1.0 mol% Nd2O3-doped NaF+ZnO+BaO+TeO2+B2O3 glasses containing single and mixed alkali oxides (K2O, Na2O, Li2O, K2O/Li2O, K2O/Na2O, and Na2O/Li2O) were prepared via melt-quenching approach and optical and NIR (near-infrared) emission traits including fluorescence decay times were explored. In all samples, Na ions comprising glass possesses 53.68 nm Delta lambda(eff) (effective bandwidth), 6.16 x 10(-21) cm(2) sigma(emi)(max) (peak emission crosssection), and 3.31 x 10(-26) cm3 sigma(emi)(max) x Delta lambda(eff) (gain bandwidth) for transition F-4(3/2)-> I-4(13/2) for O-band amplification, and also owns larger sigma (emi)(max), s(max)(emi) x Delta lambda(eff), and optical gain for F-4(3/2 ->) I-4(11/2) for NIR lasing action at 1.06 mu m. Further, K ions constituting glass holds larger full width at half maximum (= 46.23 nm) or better Delta lambda(eff) (= 51.62 nm), moderate branching ratios (beta(R) (= 42.37%) and beta(exp) (= 19%)), and higher radiative decay time (= 662 mu s) and tmeas (= 76.10 mu s) for transition (F3/2 -> I9/2)-F-4-I-4 for similar to 0.9 mu m laser operation.
