프랑스 이주민 거주구역의 인구성격과 공간변화

Abstract

이 글은 현대의 전지구적 인구이동과 이주현상에 관련된 문제의식들 이주민의 정체성 변화, 이주민들의 전략, 통합의 조건, 다양성의 공존과 통합 사이의 모순관계, 이주민의 통합이 야기하는 기존 주류사회의 문화적 정체성 위기의식과반작용 에 대해 구체적으로 점검하고자 프랑스의 이주민 구역을 사례로 다룬다. 특히 이주민 정착이 집중적으로 이루어지는 대도시인 파리시의 도시권역의현상, 보다 구체적으로는 파리시 내부의 전통적 이주민 정착지역인 20구 일대에서 인구성격이 변화하면서 나타는 도시공간과 그에 대한, 인식, 그리고 주민들의문화적 정체성 변화 사례를 집중적으로 살펴본다. 이를 통해 파리의 도시사회가이주민들의 유입 및 정착과 상호작용하면서 보이는 반응, 이주민들의 정착 전략,그리고 그에 대한 작용과 반작용의 방식들을 살펴볼 것이다. 이러한 연구를 통해이 논문은 프랑스의 파리 도시지역에서 나타나는 이주와 관련된 현상의 특수사례에 대한 이해 뿐 아니라 보다 보편적인 문제의식의 발전에 도움을 줄 수 있는 설명 방식들을 도출하고자 한다.;This article takes a case of Paris' 20th district which has reputation ofhighly concentrated immigrant population. The problematics of this casestudy are; transformation of identity for immigrants and their strategy ofadaptation, conditions of integration, paradox between 'integration'toward one mainstream culture and assumption about a juxtaposedexistence of different cultures, identity crisis for mainstream culture infront of immigrants' 'integration' etc. Paris' 20th district case is offeringalso transformation and transition of spatial identity with different stepsof historical dynamics intertwined with migrations in each different periodof time.

More peculiar point in this case study would be the coexistence ofdifferent images about the same urban district where the ideas of'French cultural identity' prevail while another image about 'foreignmigrants' culture' can be also one of main characteristics attached onthe same places. In a conflictual situation of urban redevelopmentproject, these paradoxical elements about cultural identity for the samedistrict have been mobilized as strong discourse instruments. Conceptsrelated with 'multiculturalism' were employed there frequently. But thevery idea of 'cultural identity in crisis' provoked by the perspective ofmigrants'(especially non-European) integration/ or resistance to integrationcould not resolve the roots of conflicts.
