- Abstract
- A new moment-resisting precast concrete beam and column joint system using untensioned wire strands was developed in this study, mainly for the use in underground parking lot in which the influences of the seismic load may be neglected. For the evaluation of the structural performance of this new system, two types of the specimens were tested. The first one is to investigate the behavior of the beams reinforced by the deformed bars and the wire strands in combination. As a test parameter, it was selected whether the wire strand is tensioned or not. The test results showed that the flexural capacities of all three specimens were sufficient and the decrease of deflection owing to the prestressing is not large. Secondly, the structural performance of this joint system under the cyclic load was investigated. Two specimens differentiated by the type of the penetrating reinforcement through the PC column (deformed bar or wire strands) were tested. The results showed that this joint system has satisfactory strength and stiffness and ductility. The study concluded that the new precast concrete beam and column joint system has the structural performance satisfying the requirements. © 2012 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
