Abstract
Automotive turbochargers increase internal combustion engine power and efficiency. Recent tight emission regulation requires more rapid adoption of turbochargers into passenger cars, as well as commercial vehicles. Improved rotordynamic performance with low amplitudes of shaft motion enables turbochargers to operate more efficiently with less power losses and ensuring better NVH characteristics. This presentation briefly reviews the current status of critical technology development and the emerging rotor-bearing systems for automotive turbochargers.
