Abstract
This paper is to investigate optimal energy saving operation of a HVAC system. A direct evaporative cooler is installed on a condenser of the air-source heat pump that is responsible for dehumidifying a ventilation air and removing a zone sensible load. An energy simulation is conducted based on the relative humidity of the outdoor air to derive the optimum operating conditions of the direct evaporative cooler. The simulation is conducted by Engineering Equation Solver and TRNSYS 18 for model building thermal load simulation. The HVAC system proposed in this study is saved 12.3% of primary energy consumption when the direct evaporative cooler is operated based on the relative humidity of 91%. This can be further save 3.29 kWh of primary energy compared to full operation mode.
