Abstract
The present work compares the measured static load characteristics of hybrid fluid film thrust bearings for liquid rocket engine turbopumps to predictions. Static loads over 700 N are applied to the vertically installed test hybrid thrust bearing, lubricated with high pressure compressed air as a working fluid. Three displacement sensors, equally spaced, measure fluid film thickness while a strain-gauge type load cell measures the applied static load. Over the entire static load ranges, the predicted results correlate very well with the measurements.
