Abstract
An experimental study was performed to investigate the macroscopic spray structure and the spray characteristics of high-pressure injector for the common rail type diesel engine. The global spray structure and microscopic characteristics of high-pressure diesel injector were investigated when fuel was injected for various injection pressures. The quantitative spray characteristics were measured by using the phase Doppler particle analyzer. The spray tip penetration and spray width of the common rail injector with the variation of time were linearly proportional to the elapsed time and injection pressure. The spray tip velocities and droplet sizes were compared with the predicted value. Also, the effect of injection pressure and ambient conditions on the spray characteristics was discussed in the point of a view for the comparison of predicted value and experimental results.
