Abstract

The foundation for transferring construction cost evaluation method to historical cost estimation system has been being prepared in Korea. Historical data are necessary to operate Historical cost system smoothly. Cost Index, one of the historical data, is used to estimate costs and to adjust the amount of contract money in the foreign country but it is not published in Korea, however the Cost Index can be derived from price adjustment formulae. But there are difficulties in making Cost Index because of the different price adjustment formulae from foreign country. So this paper analyzed the problems of domestic Cost Index evaluation process by comparing the standard of framing Cost Index used in British to those of Korean and presented the improvement scheme with Cost Index for road construction. Thirty cases of engineering estimate data were used to compare the domestic standard to the foreign one and to derive a Cost Index.
