- Abstract
- A new intense plastic straining technique, CGP(constrained groove pressing), has been developed for fabrication of ultrafine-grained metallic materials. In CGP, the material is subjected to repetitive shear deformation under the plane strain condition and the strain can be accumulated as comparable as that obtained by ECAP. In the present study, the plastic deformation during the CGP process was analyzed by the rigid-plastic finite element method. As a result, the effective strain as well as strain components were obtained at different locations in the thickness. CGP was then further developed into a CGR(constrained groove rolling), where the friction at the roll/material interface introduces additional shear deformation at the surface. The present paper discusses more details found in numerical and experimental investigation of CGP and CGR.
