Abstract
Highly compact wavelets named supercompact multi-wavelets are extended to higher dimensions. Data compression for numerical fluid solution is exercised using full 3D version and the hybrid version that combines 3D, 2D, and and 1D version of supercompact wavelets. Due to the compact nature of the wavelets, the proposed multi-resolution approach with supercompact wavelets offers numerous benifits such as high data compression. Supercompact wavelets are well suitable for gas flow in which some local complex features are embedded in an overall smooth solution. Supecompact wavelets provide advantageous benefit that it allows higher order accurate representation with compact support and therefore, it avoids unnecessary interaction with remotely located data across singularities such as shock and vorticies. The numerical implementation is relatively easy and less expensive than the comparable interpolatory multiresolution scheme. The practical demonstration of the multi-dimensional supercompact wavelets is presented. For hybrid multi-resoution method, computation domain is divided into subsets for each dimensional version of multi-resolution application. The hybrid multi-resolution method allows high actual data compression for fluid simulation data since the method is based on highly effective wavelets and subdivision methods. Several numerical tests substantiate large data compression ratios for flow field simulation.
