- Abstract
- he removal characteristics of organic and color materials in wastewater from B dyeing complex that was treated by pure oxygen activated sludge and Fenton processes were studied. The molecular weight distribution in the raw wastewater and in the effluent of biological or Fenton process was investigated by using ultrafiitration, UV/Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, and mass spectrum. The CODcr and color caused by molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) size below 500 dalton in the raw wastewater were 30.5%, 27%, respectively. The CODcr removal efficiency of MWCO size below 500 dalton was 36% by biological process and 65% after Fenton process. The color was not removed by aerobic biological treatment, but about 72% of color removal was achieved in Fenton process. The CODCr caused by MWCO below 500 dalton constitued 90% of the total CODCr in the effluent. In the case of color, about a half of the total color intensity was caused by smaller molecules of MWCO below 500 dalton, while the remaining half was caused by relatively large molecules of MWCO above 30K dalton. Most of the large molecules appeared to be inorganic. From the observations of our study, it should be emphasized that the organic and color materials of MWCO below 500 dalton are removed in retrofitting or advanced treatment of dyeing wastewaters.
