- Abstract
- This paper describes the feasibility of using waste liquid crystal display glass powder (LCDP) as a partial cement replacement in concrete for pavements. The chemical and physical properties of LCDP are investigated and discussed for considering its use as a pozzolanic admixture. To evaluate the performance of concrete pavement incorporating LCDP, the mechanical and durability properties in terms of the resistance to abrasion, alkali-silica reaction, chloride penetration, and freezing and thawing are investigated. The results indicate that LCDP has suitable chemical and physical properties that satisfy the requirements of the Class F pozzolanic admixture in the ASTM standard. Thanks to very low alkali content and many amorphous forms of alumina, the incorporation of LCDP significantly improves the resistance to alkali-silica reaction and penetration of chloride ions. In addition, concrete containing LCDP also shows similar strength development at later ages and similar resistance to freezing and thawing compared to fly ash concrete.
