Abstract
There are some kinds of theoretical and experimental equation to determine the replacement depth when progressive replacement is used, but they do not fit to all kind of soil conditions. This paper introduced the experimental results to determine the replacement depth on the basis of in-situ boring data obtained from the construction area in the south coast in Korea. Also, numerical simulations using CRISP FEM code was carried out to find out the depth of replacement. In addition, new empirical relation considering thickness of soft day layer is proposed. The replacement depths predicted.from this relation show good agrement with measured depth. This paper suggests some techniques when numerical method is adopted to predict progressive replacement depth. Predicted results using these techniques also show good aggrement.
