Abstract
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) that is a product from renewable resources is a well known biodegradable thermoplastic with excellent mechanical properties. However, the brittleness of PLA limits its general applications. Poly(butylene adipate) as a novel plasticizer of poly (lactic acid), this composite blend with the twin-screw intermixer at five concentrations, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 wt %, respectively. Compared with pure PLA, all sets of blends show certain improvement of toughness to different extents. Especially, tensil elongation of sample using a plasticizer added 2-ethylene hexanol dramatically increased from 10 wt % to 15 wt %. Thus the more sample amounts containing plasticizer increase, the more tensil elongation increaseds.
