Abstract
In Part ?T, Poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) is synthesized from the copolymerization of carbon dioxide and propylene oxide. Novel nanocomposite gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) are prepared by utilizing PPC, organic solvents containing a redox couple and aluminum oxide nanoparticles for application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The quasi-solid-state DSSC assembled with optimized nanocomposite GPEs exhibits a relatively high conversion efficiency of 6.16 % at 100 mWcm-2 and better stability compared to DSSC with liquid electrolyte. In Part ?U, We have already proposed a poly(propylene carbonate)(PPC)- based quasi-solid state electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar cells(DSSCs). In this part, we studied quasi-solid state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) fabricated with poly(vinylidene fluoride-cohexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP) and poly(propylene carbonate)(PPC) as gel polymer matrix, diphenylamine(DPA) as additive and alumina oxide nanoparticles as fillers. From the investigation of additive effect on the performance of the corresponding DSSC, we find that an addition of DPA leads to an increase in short-circuit photocurrent density(Jsc). This is due to the efficient transport of I− /I3− caused by enhanced I− concentration and increased ion transport channels in the GPEs by adding additive. The best efficiency of 5.8 % is achieved in the cell with PPC/PVDF-HFP based gel polymer electrolyte.
