Abstract
The size and shape tunable hydroxyl polyimide (HPI) microspheres were fabricated by represipitation method and converted to the thermally rearranged polybenzoxazole (TR-PBO) particles and composite membranes were prepared by coating HPI microspheres onto electrospun HPI membranes and then converted into TR-PBO composite membranes. Several parameters affecting on the particle size, aggregation and morphology were studied and their morphologies were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the particle formation mechanism is proposed. Thermal conversion of TR-PBO particles and TR-PBO membranes were confirmed by infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) analysis. Electrospun and composite membranes were characterized by porometer, contact angle analyzer. Thickness and SEM pictures of TR-PBO membranes were confirmed. The morphology of the resulting membranes and TGA and DSC confirmed excellent thermal stability compared to the Celgard, commercial PP separator for the lithium ion battery (LIB). TR-PBO nano-composite membranes, assembled into the coin-cell type of LIB as separators confirmed excellent over the Celgard for the high power density LIB.
