김남천 여성인물 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 김남천 소설에 등장하는 여성 인물의 주체 가능성을 시대에 흐름에 따른 작품 속에서 알아보고자 하며, 그 과정에서 여성 인물이 유지하는 일관된 태도를 통해 김남천의 해방 전후 문학의 연속성을 밝혀내는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 김남천의 작품 속 여성 인물의 유형을 세 갈래로 나누어 분석하고자 한다. 2장에서는 남성과 소년의 대상으로서 존재하는 여성으로, 1933년의 작품부터 1939년 중반까지의 작품이 이에 해당한다. 3장에서는 삼자 관계를 통하여 자신의 위치를 찾고 주체로서 성장하는 여성으로, 1939년 중후반의 작품부터 1941년 초반의 작품이 이에 해당한다. 마지막 4장에서는 새 나라 건설이라는 과제를 수행하며 이데올로기 담론을‘회의’하는 여성으로, 해방 후에 창작된 작품들이 이에 해당한다. 2장 1절에서는 여성을 대상으로 점유하며 상징적 위임을 떠맡고자 하는 남성과 그러한 남성의 허위성을 밝혀내는 여성의 모습을 살펴보았다. 2장 2절에서는 구원으로서 나타나는 여성을 통해 현실의 이탈을 꿈꾸는 소년과 그 소년의 꿈을 좌절시키는 여성의 모습을 살펴보았다. 3장 1절에서는 연애를 중심으로 가시적으로 드러나는 삼자 관계 속에서 자신의 자리를 찾아가는 여성의 모습을 살펴보았다. 삼자 구도 속에서 여성은 다른 사람들의 관계에 집중한다. 하지만 이것은 역설적으로 본래 주체가 가진 고유한 속성이며, 주체가 근본적으로 위치하는 자리가 어딘가를 가르쳐 준다. 이러한 소외와 분리의 과정을 통해 여성은 욕망하는 주체로 탄생하게 된다. 3장 2절에서는‘응시’로서 드러나는 비가시적인 삼자 관계와 그 속에서 자신의 위치를 찾아가는 여성을 살펴보았다. 여성은 두 남성이 제시하는 이데올로기의 담론에 속에 드러나는 대타자의 결함에 대해 끊임없이 질문을 제기하며 ‘회의(懷疑)’하는 태도를 보인다. 여성은 이‘회의’를 통해 상징적 구조(이데올로기)의 한가운데 있는‘결여’를 발견하고, 그‘공백’을 점유하고자 한다. 4장 1절에서는 해방 후의 과제인 새 시대의 새 국가 ‘건설’을 대하는 여성의 태도를 살펴보았다.새 국가를 ‘건설’해 나갈 젊은이로 설정된 여성은 이념적인 성격을 띠기보다 자신이 따라야 할 이데올로기 담론을 ‘회의’하는 태도를 보인다. 이는 김남천의 해방 전후의 문학 세계가 연속적이라는 것을 보여주며, 해방 후 그가 완전히 정치적 주체로서 복귀하지 않았음을 뜻한다. 4장 2절에서는 실패할 위험에 처한 혁명을 작품을 통해 역사적인 사건으로 상징화 시키고자 하는 작가의 모습을 살펴보았다. 해방 후 작가는 정치적 주체로서 당의 이념을 내세우는 작품을 창작하지만, 이 작품들은 모두 미완으로 끝나버린다. 그리고 작품들의 연재가 중단되어 버리는 시점은 주인공이 본격적인 혁명과정에 참여하기 직전이다. 이것은 해방 후 그의 작품이 왜 미완으로 끝날 수밖에 없었는지 그 내부적 요인을 짐작할 수 있게 해준다. 정치적 주체로서의 김남천과 작가적 주체로서의 김남천의 간극은 절대 좁혀지지 않는 것이었으며, 그것은 더 한 심연을 불러일으켜 정치적 주체의 상징화 작업을 실패하게 만들기 때문이다. 해방 전, 여성은 그 어떤 주인 기표와 ‘아버지의 이름’에 복종하지 않으며 언제나 시대의 주류 담론을 ‘회의’하는 태도를 보인다. 그리고 해방이라는 변곡점을 통과하면서도 여성의 이러한 태도는 변하지 않으며 일관된 모습으로 발견된다. 이는 해방 후 김남천의 문학 세계가 ‘단절’이 아닌 ‘연속성’을 띠고 있음을 확인할 수 있게 해준다.

Female characters in Kim nam chun’s novel: continuative awareness before and after the Korea’s Liberation

The study is to identify possibilities as a subject of female characters in Nam-cheon Kim's novel through the flow of history and has purpose on continuity of Nam-choen Kim's novel before and after the Liberation by studying consistent attitude of female characters. The female characters were divided into 3 streams. In 2nd chapter, female characters as a subject for men and boy, Kim's novels from 1933~ to mid of 1939 apply for the area. In 3rd chapter, female character who pursues a triangular relation to gain her position and grow as a subject, novels from mid-to-late 1939 to early 1941 are relevant. For the last chapter, 4th, female character who doubts the ideology by executing the test to build a new country and Kim's novel after the Liberation are applicable. In chapter 2, section1, I looked through the female characters who try against hypocrisy of the men who occupies women to obtain symbolic delegation. In chapter2, section2, I looked at a boy character dreaming escape from the reality through female character as a rescue. In chapter 3, section1, I looked through the female characters who are following the position in the triangular relation. In chapter 3, section2, I analyzed the female characters who follow their position as a subject of 'gaze' in the invisible triangular relation. In chapter 4, section 1, I examined the female character's attitude towards to the construction of new country of new generation which is also national assignment after the Liberation In chapter 4, section 2, I looked into author's will to symbolize the historic incident in the novel that actually could be in danger of failing. Before the Liberation, female characters don't follow the Master-Signifier & ‘Name- of- the- Father’ and only show the skeptical attitude towards to main stream. This kind of attitude doesn't change and continues passing over the Liberation which is knee point. This identifies Nam-cheon Kim's novel has the continuity not rupture. In a result, the study focuses on the point where ultimately he wanted to occupy through consecutive attribute of female characters. Female characters never owns the Ideology as it is and try to occupy manque, crack and void. And this void is the point what Nam-cheon Kim wanted to occupy at last. After the Liberation, his consistent attitude implicates that he had recognized the reality as a authorial subject and committed himself to literature.
