Abstract
Due to the aggregated characteristics of polydiacetylene (PDA) polymer, the conventional two-dimensional based PDA sensors have low detection limits. Three-dimensional network of carbon nanotubes (3DNCT) has a net like structure which enhances the local topographic interactions with analyte in flow system and thus increases the detection limits of the sensor. In this research, PDA was immobilized on the simplest 3DNCT, which has one or two networks between two micro-pillars, to fabricate new PDA sensor platform. The network of carbon nanotubes were synthesized on micro-pillar structure and the networks were merged into single or double strings by toluene treatment. PDA vesicles were immobilized on 3DNCT by peptide bonding and the PDA coated 3DNCT structure were investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and fluorescence microscope. The detection range of PDA coated 3DNCT and two-dimensional planar substrate were measured with alpha-cyclodextrins, which induce blue-to-red color shift selectively, in flow system. Two-dimensional planar substrate has 2.5 mM to 25 mM detection range, on the other hand, 3DNCT could detect alpha-cyclodextrin from 1 µM to 125 mM which has 5,000 times broader detection range.
