Abstract
As increasing the importance of wireless communication in this world, various wireless technologies emerge and are doing a struggle for existence. protocols of the terminal node vary but wireless network in buildings is required to be integrated operation for interoperability and the system is needed to be developed accordingly. So BACnet-Energy Harvesting Wireless Network gateway was implemented and the system was designed to integrate sensor data from terminal node into BACnet protocol. also, it is implemented as a monitoring system for User to check some sensor data through GUI software. Energy harvesting wireless sensor module which can be applied in the building as an end device, transmits some sensor data to a gateway of a building. The important thing of energy harvesting module is to operate permanently without a replacement battery. So, we must estimate the required capacity of the battery for the most economical situation when there is no some light energy for harvesting. But, even if the capacity is determined, it is not suitable for permanent operation because of the limitations of a lithium ion battery. So, we created an energy harvesting wireless sensor module with a super capacitor as the main power source. Moreover, after obtaining the capacity of a super capacitor corresponding to the lithium ion battery, the performance of energy harvesting modules with a lithium-ion and a super capacitor by comparing their discharge times was analyzed. The performance results of both modules are similar and this shows the method of using a super capacitor as the main source is suitable for permanent operation in low power system.
