Abstract
Building Information Modelling (BIM) has brought disruptive development by increasing the productivity and efficiency of the construction industry around the world. Since the last decade, the use of BIM has drastically surged in the developed construction markets increasing the performance of construction projects throughout its life cycle. However, BIM is not fully utilized in developing economies. This study investigates the awareness, benefits, and barriers to BIM in the construction market of Pakistan by taking the perspective of civil engineers. A literature review was conducted to know the BIM adoption, barriers, and standardization by the governments in the developed countries. A quantitative approach adopted by conducting a questionnaire survey directed to civil engineers working in sectors of government, contractor, consultant, and education. The data is analyzed using Statistical Software for Social science (SPSS). The finding of the study shows, the majority of civil engineers are aware and have an understanding of BIM technology, but a minor percentage of respondents are using it as part of their job. Respondents ranked BIM is a useful tool in better decision making and improving planning and coordination among stakeholders as major benefits of BIM over conventional construction practices. Furthermore, lack of organizational efforts in BIM adoption, weak Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and government efforts for framing BIM regulation and standards are the major barriers identified in the construction market of Pakistan. Finally, a set of strategies are provided that would help to alleviate the issues in BIM adoption.|BIM (Building Information Modeling)은 전 세계 건설 산업의 생산성과 효율성을 높여 혁신적인 개발을 가져 왔습니다. 통계는 SPSS (Statistical Software for Social Science)를 사용하여 분석됩니다. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has brought disruptive development by increasing the productivity and efficiency of the construction industry around the world.
