장호 시세계 연구 : 모더니즘에서 불교적 사유로의 여정

Abstract

장호 시인은 1951년부터 1999년 작고하기까지 1권의 합동시집과 7권의 개인 시집을 출간한 바 있다. 그는 50년의 시 창작을 통해 시적으로 많은 성과를 거두었지만 그동안 그의 시에 대한 연구는 거의 없다. 본고는 그의 시세계를 연구할 충분한 의의가 있다고 판단하여 그의 시 전편을 통시적으로 분석해보았다. 통시적 분석의 결과 그의 시세계는 대개 네 시기로 구분할 수 있었다. 첫째 시기는 출발기로서 이 시기의 시들은 모더니스트로서의 장호의 현실의 절망과 그 극복의지가 드러나는 시기라고 할 수 있다. 둘째 시기는 출발기의 관념적 현실을 벗어나 발을 딛고 있는 일상 삶의 현실이 고스란히 드러나는 시들이었다. 특히 현실 속 ‘나’에 대한 인식과 ‘너’와 더불어 사는 삶에 대한 깊은 관심이 드러나고 있다. 셋째 시기는 역사에 대한 인식과 과거 시간들에 대한 기억들을 현재화하는 시들이 주를 이루고 있다. 넷째 시기는 지금까지 세 시기의 시들보다 훨씬 더 불교적 사유가 진하게 드러나는 시들이었다. 장호의 시 전반을 분석해본 결과 그의 시는 시기별로 서로 다른 특성을 지니고 있어 기나긴 정신적 여정을 잘 보여주고 있었다. 그리고 그것은 바로 그의 삶의 궤적과도 잘 부합하는 것이었다.

Poet Jang Ho published first collaboration collection of poems to seventh personal collection of poems from 1951 through 1999. He produced abundant meaningful results of poetry from his cretion of poems, but there has not been many if not any related research about his poems. His World of poems definitely provide meaningful insights for research, and his entire poems are analyzed diachronic in this study. A diachronic analysis result sums up four different periods of his poem World. First period is during the beginning time when modernist, Jang Ho’s poems express despair of reality and will to overcome obstacles. Second period is when reality of daily life is fully expressed in firm setting after notion of reality during beginning period. Especially the notion for interest in ‘I’in realty and ‘You’ living together are well conveyed. Third period’s main theme poems are notion of the history and making present of memories from the past. Fourth period represent Buddhism mind much strongly compare to previous three periods. The analysis of Jang Ho"s entire poems show clear distinctions among different periods representing long journey of minds. That journey also coincide with his personal trace of life.
