Abstract
In this paper, an efficiency enhancement technique is proposed for a loop type ground radiation antenna on a small sized ground plane whose resonance frequency of the fundamental ground mode is significantly higher than the operating frequency. The efficiency is enhanced by matching the resonance frequency of the ground mode with the operating frequency. This was accomplished with a structure consisting of a loop of wire and inductors installed at both edges of the rectangular ground plane. The total length of each fabricated wire is 80 mm, which can be easily accommodated in the rim of a mobile device. The technique also increased the operating bandwidth. The measured efficiency of the antenna using the proposed technique is 47.44% and the bandwidth is 74 MHz at the Z-wave band. (C) 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
