오시이 마모루 작품에 나타난 시뮬라시옹 연구

Abstract

시뮬라크르는 플라톤 이래 서양 철학에 있어서 중요한 화두 중 하나이다.(각주 6 참조) 20세기 까지 서양철학은 플라톤의 이데아론을 바탕으로 한 '절대진리'에 대한 합리주의에 근거하고 있다. 시뮬라크르 개념은 근대에 이르기까지 철저히 외면되거나 배척되어 왔다. 그러나 이미지의 시대, 시뮬라크르의 시대인 오늘날에 와서 시뮬라크르는 구제되고 있다. 발터 벤야민에서 시작된 탈근대적 시뮬라크르의 개념은 권터안더스, 자크 데리다, 질 들뢰즈, 그리고 장 보드리아르에 의해 발전된다. 본 고에서는 장 보드리아르의 시뮬라크르의 개념을 중심으로 우리 시대의 시뮬라크르의 현상을 검토해 보고, 그 개념을 영상 속에서 풀어내고 있는 오시이 마모루의 작품세계를 분석해 보았다. 오시이 마모루를 포함해 최근에 발표된 '시뮬라크르'를 주제로 한 영상작품들을 첨단의 특수영상기법이나 화려한 화면 등의 표피적인 방법으로 분석하여 평가하는 것은 결국 우리 스스로를 '시뮬라시옹'(매트릭스)의 부속물로 전락케 하는 우를 범하는 것이다. 그러한 방법으로는 그들 영상세계가 담고 있는 시각 인식론의 메시지를 읽을 수 없다. '시뮬라크르'는 우리 생활 세계 속에 산재해 있다. 그 실체에 대한 탐구와 예술작품들의 분석은 새로운 대안을 제시하는 밑거름이 될 것이다.

Simulacre is one of the major topics in the Western philosophy since Plato. Since the 20th century, the Western philosophy is based on rationalism toward ’absolute truth' founded on Platonic Ideas. The concept of Simulacre is ignored and rejected until the modern days. However, Simulalcre is gaining its attention at this time of image. and the time of Simulalcre. The concept of postmodern Simulacre, started from Walter Benjamin is developed by Gnther Anders, Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze, and Jean Baudrillard. This study, based on the Jean Baudrillard’s ∞n∞pt of Simulacre, examines today’s Simulacre phenomena and analyzes the cinematic works of Oshii Mamoru who displays the concept of Simulalcre in his films. Analyzing and evaluating his recent visual works based on Simulalcre theory with such superficial methods as advanced special visual effects is a mistake that demeans Simulation? (Matrix). Today, Simulacre phenomena are scattered all over our life. The search of its substance and the analysis of his artworks will be a foundation that makes a new alternative suggestion.
