Abstract
This paper presents design and development of a rotational speed sensor using a magnetized compressor nut to measure a turbocharger shaft rotational speed. The sensor, detecting magnetic field variation, includes both a coil generating voltage signals and simple signal conditioning circuits. The tachometer indicates a shaft rotating speed using periodic voltage signals from the coil. Furthermore, the sensor transduces 5 mG magnetic field variations to output voltage ranging 0 to 5 VAC which corresponds to a voltage level of input signals required to the tachometer used.
