Abstract
Cable broadcasting services are providing new forms of convergence services such as digital video broadcasting, VoIP (Voice over IP), high-speed data transmission as well as IP video, Smart TV service and multiscreen. However, there is a limit to accommodate all services with limited frequency resources. To solve these limitations, we introduce RoIP technology into HFC network. RoIP is a technique for transmitting RF or IF signals to an IP network. Packetized RF or IF data can be transmitted anywhere over the IP network and can recover this packetized RF or IF data at the destination. However, by digitizing the RF signal, the amount of digital data is increased and the transmission efficiency is lowered accordingly. In this thesis, we propose CPRI (common public radio interface) compression methods which are used in C-RAN (Centralized Radio Access Network), BWT (Burrows Wheeler Transform) and RLC (Run Length Coding) Compression together. Since the standard for data compression is not yet defined in the optical cable broadcasting network, the CPRI compression method is applied to the cable broadcasting network in the C-RAN using the optical cable. As a result, compression ratio of 5 ~ 10% was obtained by applying BWT and RLC compression method to CPRI compression methods. However, the delay time increased by about 10 times. Nevertheless, the proposed BWT and RLC compression method satisfied the ORI standard. Therefore, this method is considered suitable for the uplink cable.
