In this study, we pursue a diagnostic study to identify covariability between regional drought and atmospheric circulation patterns. M-K trend and correlation analyses were carried out to evaluate spatio-temporal variability of drought on the Korean peninsula. The results show that the spring drought was intensified over the Korean peninsula, except for some parts of the Nakdong River basins. In addition, it was found that the SPI drought index and the Western Pacific(WP) teleconnection pattern indicate the strong positive correlation in the southern parts of Korea during the spring season. We expect that the results presented here provide useful information for developing seasonal drought conditioned upon large-scale climatic state for stable water supply and emerging water allocation framework in Korea.en_US
