Soil moisture is important for the global hydrologic cycle. It is the water that is gripped in the space between soil particles. So, it is a significant component to understand hydrological phenomena such as rainfall-spill and change of geographical features. Even though soil moisture is an important component for water resources and climate observation, observations and researches are insufficient in Korea. Recently soil moisture is measured by using satellite. The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer E (AMSR-E) launched on board Aqua satellite on 2002. AMSR-E has 6 different frequencies with measured brightness temperature using 12 channels. It is the best instrument observing global soil moisture every day 5-50km spatial resolution regardless weather conditions. In this study, MODIS satellite image data were adopted to provide downscaled soil moisture information at finer resolution from AMSR-E’s original resolution (25 km)en_US
