This paper presents a new design method of permanent magnet (PM) actuator for improving driving performance with considering the remanence characteristic of magnet. The magnetic analysis of PM actuator is performed by applying nonlinear B-H characteristic of PM with the driving temperature and the magnetic field strength inside the PM. The optimization problem is formulated to minimize the PM area where the remanent flux is reduced at the load state for satisfying the target magnetic performance within the limited material usage. To obtain an innovative optimal design of PM, level set based topology optimization method is employed. A design example of PM actuator with two loading conditions will be provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented method.en_US
