Abstract
This paper introduces modeling and analysis of the electric drive system for an electric excavator, which is being actively developed in the field of construction machinery recently. The target electric excavator is designed to drive the swing part and the main pump using separate electric motors, and the electric power for driving is supplied from the battery energy charged from external source. In the early stages of developing a new system, Model-In-the-Loop Simulation is very useful to reduce the trial-and-error of prototyping, so that the development cost and time decreases. Simulation results showed that the target electric excavator provided similar work performance to conventional hydraulic excavator, and the operating energy cost using the electric excavator is lower than that consumed using the conventional excavator during the standard work cycle.
