The effect of types of information presentation on the flow and the instructional efficiency in multimedia learning

Abstract

본 연구는 멀티미디어 학습에서 사전훈련을 마친 후 제공하는 애니메이션 정보제시 유형이 몰입과 교수 효율성에 미치는 영향을 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 인지부하 조절 측면에서 인지부하를 최적화하기 위해 멀티미디어 설계 원리를 기반으로 네 가지 유형의 애니메이션 정보제시 유형을 활용하여 멀티미디어 학습을 진행하였다. 연구 참여자는 중학생 52명이었고, 연구 대상자를 무작위로 네 집단으로 나누고 동일한 사전훈련을 제공한 후 본 학습에서는 애니메이션 정보 제시 유형을 집단 별로 차이를 두어 제공하였다(애니메이션과 내레이션을 제공한 그룹, 애니메이션과 요약 내레이션을 제공한 그룹, 애니메이션, 내레이션, 요약 텍스트를 제공한 그룹, 애니메이션, 요약 내레이션, 핵심 단어를 제공한 그룹). 학습이 끝난 후 몰입, 인지부하, 학습내용 이해를 측정하여 공분산분석을 실시하고 교수 효율성을 측정하였다. 연구결과에 의하면 '애니메이션+요약 내레이션' 그룹이 몰입과 교수 효율성에서 가장 효과적, 효율적인 정보제시 유형으로 나타났으며 '애니메이션+요약 내레이션+핵심 단어' 그룹도 몰입과 교수 효율성에서 좋은 결과를 보여주었다. 이를 통해 사전훈련을 실시하는 멀티미디어 학습에서는 학습내용을 간략히 제시하거나 핵심 단어를 관련 내용 바로 옆에 제시함으로써 학습결과를 효과적으로 이끌 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 학습내용에 대한 관련 영역 스키마를 획득한 학습자에게는 학습자의 전문성을 고려한 정보제시 유형을 제공하는 것이 무엇보다 중요하며 사전훈련이 학습자의 전문성에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 고려하여 교수?학습 전략을 세워야 한다는 것을 알 수 있다. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the types of information presentation providedafter the pre-training on flow and instructional efficiency. Participants were 52 middle school students andthey were divided into four groups and each group was provided different types of information presentationas follows after the pre-training: the animation with narration type, the animation with concise narrationtype, the animation, narration, with concise text type, the animation concise narration, with key word type.After e-learning, flow and instructional efficiency were analyzed using covariance. The results of this studyare as follows: the flow and instructional efficiency of the animation with concise narration presented groupwas the highest and the animation, concise, with key word presented group was effective as well. Throughthis result, the presentation of concise contents or key words next to the relevant information can improvelearning performance in multimedia learning by utilizing pre-training.
