토요일 프라임 타임 프로그램 편성전략이 채널 시청률에 미치는 영향: 지상파 방송을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 토요일 프라임 타임 프로그램 편성전략이 채널 시청률에 미치는 영향을 탐색했다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 채널별 프로그램 간 순차적 인접효과를 살펴본 결과, KBS는 <불후의 명곡>에서부터 KBS2 드라마, <연예가중계>에 이르는 3개 프로그램이 서로 인과적 연계성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. MBC 채널의 프로그램들의 연계성을 살펴본 결과, <우리 결혼했어요(우결)>와 <무한도전> 간에는 높은 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타난 반면, <무한도전>에서부터 <MBC뉴스데스크>, 드라마 1, 드라마 2에 이르는 프로그램 간에는 통계적으로는 의미가 있지만 상관관계와 설명력은 낮게 나타났다. SBS는 <스타 주니어쇼 붕어빵> 및 <스타킹>의 경우에만 인접효과가 나타났으며 뉴스 이후에 편성된 드라마 1과 드라마 2, <그것이 알고 싶다> 등 총 3편의 프로그램 간에는 시청률 인과관계가 나타나지 않았다. 둘째, 토요일 저녁에 지상파 방송3사에 편성된 오락 및 교양, 드라마 프로그램 간 상관관계를 살펴본 결과, 오락 프로그램 장르에서는 SBS와 MBC 프로그램의 경우 자사 프로그램 간에 높은 상관관계가 나타났다. 드라마 장르에서는 MBC와 SBS가 편성한 두 개의 드라마 시청률 간에는 유의미한 연계성이 나타나지 않거나 또는 부적인 연계성이 나타났다. 셋째, 지상파 방송 3개 채널별 주말 시청률 결정 요인을 살펴본 결과, KBS2 채널의 경우 KBS2 드라마가 가장 설명력이 높은 프로그램으로 나타났다. MBC 채널의 시청률에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 프로그램은 <무한도전>으로 나타났다. SBS 시청률에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 프로그램은 SBS 드라마 1로 나타났다.; This study examined the effects of prime time programming strategies on channel ratings on Saturday. The findings were as follows: first, the study looked into the sequential proximity effects among programs by channel and found causal connections among three programs, namely Immortal Songs, a KBS2 drama, and Entertainment Weekly, on KBS. The study further looked into connections among programs on MBC and found close correlations between We Got Married and Infinite Challenge. The connections from Infinite Challenge to News Desk, Drama 1 and Drama 2 were statistically significant but low in correlations and explanatory power. On SBS, proximity effects were observed only between Star Junior Show and Star King with no causal relations of ratings found among three programs, namely Drama 1, Drama 2 and The Its Show after the news program. Secondly, the study examined correlations among entertainment, refinement, and drama shows on the three terrestrial broadcasting channels on Saturday evening and obtained the following results: there were close correlations between programs in the genre of entertainment on SBS and MBC, and no significant connections or negative connections were observed in ratings between two dramas on MBC and SBS. Finally, the study delved into the determinants of weekend ratings on the three terrestrial broadcasting channels and found that the KBS2 drama had the biggest explanatory power on KBS2, that Infinite Challenge had the greatest impact on the ratings of MBC, and that the SBS drama 1 exerted the largest influence on the ratings of SBS.
