게르트 로트만(Gerd Rothmann)의 장신구에 대한 연구

Abstract

현대 장신구는 전통 장신구와는 달리 재료와 형태 면에서 차별성을 보이며, 나아가 장신구를 예술적 매체로까지 격상시킨다. 그러나 그 표현 방식은 매우 다양한 형상으로 나타난다. 일부는 장신구 고유의 특성인 착용까지도 무시한 채 또 다른 경우는 장신구 고유의 특성이라 할 수 있는 신체, 착용의 문제로부터 출발하기도 한다. 이 논문에서는 현대 장신구의 중요한 획을 긋는 게르트 로트만(Gerd Rothmann)의 작품이 현대 장신구의 맥락 속에서 어떤 의미를 갖는지 체계적으로 설명하려고 시도했다. 로트만은 그의 작업의 본질을 장신구의 정체성이라 할 수 있는 착용과 신체로부터 발견한다. 즉, 신체의 일부를 복제 또는 모방한 그의 장신구는 착용자와 일체화되어 그것을 착용한 사람에게 결코 뗄 수 없는 관계를 생성하며 그의 신체의 일부가 되어버린다. 그는 자신이 천재적인 예술가가 아니라 “금은세공사”임을 밝히며, 창조가 아니라 모방을, 그것도 석고를 부어 기존의 것을 가장 충실하게 재현해내는 모방자임을 작품으로 보여준다. 그러나 분명한 것은 그가 만들어내는 것이 복제임에도 불구하고 극히 창조적인 것이라는 점과, 이미 기존해 있는 것임에도 불구하고 “금은세공사”의 손을 통해서 새로운 심미적 가치를 획득했다는 점이다. 그의 장신구는 착용자의 신체에 착용되는 순간에 비로소 생명을 얻게 되며, 그 순간 착용자와 장신구는 둘이 아니라 새로운 형태로 매력을 뿜어내는 하나가 되어버리는 것이다. 이렇게 로트만의 장신구를 분석해 봄으로써 장신구의 또 다른 표현가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.;Modern Jewelry differ from traditional ones in materials and designs and have been developed into art medium. They also have been expressed in various forms. Some ignore their original function, being worn on the body while others start with it. In this paper, I tried to focus on Gerd Rothmann, who is a standing figure in the modern Jewelry and systematically explain the importance of his works. He found the essentiality of his work in both the wearing and the body, which can be identified with the Jewelry. That is, his Jewelry, which are replicates or imitations of parts of human body, unite with the wearer inseparably and become one part of his body. He calls himself not an art genius but a "goldsmith" and through his works proves that they are not creations but imitations made with the method of molding plaster. The most important thing to point out, however, is despite the fact that they are imitations his works are extremely creative and have acquired new aesthetic value by the hands of a "goldsmith." His Jewelry becomes alive at the moment of being worn on the wearer and the two become one as a new form exuding charm. By analyzing Rothmann's works, another possibility to create and express Jewelry could be confirmed.
