일본의 종교학과 현황과 전망

Abstract

본고의 목적은 일본 종교학과의 과거와 현재의 상황을 개관하면서 향후의 전망을 제시하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 본고는 먼저 도쿄대학을 비롯한 전전 제국대학에서의 종교학 현황 및 종교계 대학의 종교학에 관해 고찰한 후, 오늘날 일본 종교학과의 현황을 소개하고 있다. 이때 본고는 특히 방법론 및 관점의 다양성, 철학과 종교학의 공존, 실천적 필드워크, 비교종교 및 종교문화, 종교학과 교학의 공존 등의 항목을 중심으로 일본대학 종교학과의 구체적 특징을 범주화하고자 한다. 이와 아울러 본고는 미래적 전망과 관련하여 2011년 3·11대진재 이후 도호쿠대학에서 출범한 “실천적 종교학”을 대표적 사례로 제시하면서, 전전 일본대학에 있어 종교학이 관제적 공공성에 기여한 전력과는 상이한, 오늘날 새로운 형태의 공공성과 종교학의 접목 가능성에 주목하고 있다.;The purpose of this essay is to retrospect and prospect on the past, present, and future of the department of religious studies in Japan. For this purpose, the preliminary review about both religious studies of imperial universities including Tokyo University and religious studies in missionary universities in the prewar period might be necessary in advance. And then, I will give an outline of the present situation of the department of religious studies in Japan, focussing on the several features such as the diversity of methodology and perspective, the coexistence of philosophy and religious studies, practical fieldwork, “comparative religion” or “religion and culture”, and the coexistence of religious studies and theology. In so doing, I will give special attention to the so-called “practical religious studies” established by Tohoku University just after the 3․11. In conclusion, this paper will suggest a possibility of a new publicness of religious studies in Japan, which must be completely different from the governmental publicness in prewar Japan.
