안성천 유역 구석기 조사의 전개와 성과

Abstract

안성천 유역의 구석기 조사는 특정 계기를 바탕으로 탐색기, 개시기, 발전기, 확산기로구분할 수 있는데, 탐색기 이후 개시기-발전기-확산기의 시간적 범위는 대단히 짧은 편이다. 탐색기는 안성천 유역 내 구석기의 분포 가능성을 확인할 수 있는 여러 지점에서 구석기의수습이 진행되었던 2003년 이전의 시기이며, 개시기는 2003년 평택을 시작으로 수원‧안성‧화성‧천안 등 여러 지역에서 구석기 조사가 진행되기 시작하는 2003~07년까지의 기간이다. 발전기는 핵심적 유적이 조사되고 이를 통해 이 지역 구석기의 성격을 구체적으로 확인하게 되는 2007~11년, 마지막으로 확산기는 구석기 조사가 이루어지는 지점의 공간적 범위가더욱 확대되는 2012년에서 현재까지이다. 안성천 유역의 구석기 조사는 크게 네가지 측면에서 그 성과가 정리되었다. 첫째, 유적의입지와 지형적 특성이 확인되었다. 둘째, 비교적 활발한 토양‧퇴적물 분석 등 자연과학의적용을 통한 유적 형성 환경이 추론되었다. 셋째, 유물층과 그 시간적 편년의 설정이 이루어졌다. 마지막으로 구석기공작의 성격에 대한 논의를 통해 우리나라 구석기공작의 일양상을 확인할 수 있게 되었다. 향후 기존 구석기 조사의 문제와 한계를 극복하여 안성천 유역 구석기 조사의 성장이 이루어지길 기대한다. The Paleolithic surveys in the Anseong-cheon area can be classified into four stages, namely exploration stage, start-up stage, development stage and expansion stage based on specific moments. The time range of the start-up, development, and expansion stages following the exploration stage is very short. The exploration stage was before 2003 when the possibility of the distribution of the Paleolithic artifacts in the Anseong-cheon area was confirmed, and the start-up stage was from 2003 to 2007 when Paleolithic excavations began in Pyeongtaek, Suwon, Anseong, Hwaseong and Cheonan. The development stage is from 2007 to 2011, when main sites were excavated, and through this, the characteristics of the Paleolithic in the region were specifically identified. Finally, the expansion stage is from 2012 to the present, when the spatial scope of the Paleolithic excavations has further expanded. Through the Paleolithic survey of the Anseong-cheon area, the location and topographic characteristics of sites were confirmed. In addition, scientific analysis has been applied to relatively active soils and sediments. Also, the artifacts layers and their chronology were established. Finally, a result was achieved that enabled discussions on the nature of the Paleolithic industry. It is my hope that the Paleolithic surveys in the Anseong-cheon area will grow by overcoming the problems and limitations of previous surveys in the future.
