고려시대 광주읍치의 고고학적 고찰

Abstract

본 글은 그 동안 이루어졌던 고고학적 조사 성과를 바탕으로 고려시대 광주읍치에 대한 고고학적 공간양상을 검토하였다. 고려시대 광주읍치의 구체적인 위치는 각종 문헌과 고지도를 검토해 볼 때 대체적으로 경기도 하남시 교산동, 춘궁동 일대인 것으로 비정해 왔다. 이 지역에서는 하남 이성산성, 하남 동사지, 광주향교 유적 등 지정문화재와 교산동 건물지, 천왕사지 등의 주요한 유적들이 확인되었을 뿐 아니라, 주변지역에서 유사한 시기와 성격의 소규모 유적들이 다수 확인되었다. 타 지역과 비교되는 풍부한 고고학적 자료를 검토해 볼 때 교산동 일대, 광주향교 일대와 그 주변지역의 유적을 읍치와 관련한 관영, 사찰, 생활공간 등 고려시대 광주목과 관련된 중세의 도시유적으로 이해할 수 있는 근거가 마련되었다. 교산동 일대의 핵심유적과 주요시설은 수도와 지방을 연결하는 주요 도로체계 안에서 상호연결되었기 때문에, 읍치의 구성과 마을의 대체적인 범위는 핵심 유적의 분포 범위와 도로망을 통해 추정해 볼 수 있다. 고고학적 자료로 보아 광주읍치는 교산동 건물지를 중심으로 한 교산동 일대가 관아나 객사 등 관영건물이 위치한 중심지역이고, 덕풍천 서안의 광주향교 일대와 춘궁동 일원은 생활유적, 창고시설, 우물, 배수시설, 소성유구 등으로 볼 때 생활, 생산, 보관과 관련된 활동을 관리, 감독하는 관영공간 혹은 마을의 생활공간일 가능성이 더 높다. 특히 덕풍천을 이용한 물자의 운반, 보관활동과 관련된 관청과 마을이 존재했을 가능성도 상존한다. 반면 객사와 관아 전면과 인근에는 교산동사지, 하사창동사지, 천왕사지로 연결되는 평지의 사찰공간으로 이루어졌을 가능성이 가장 높다. Based on the results of the archaeological research conducted so far, this article examines the archaeological spatial aspects of Gwangju-Eupchi(廣州邑治) during the Goryeo Dynasty. The specific location of Gwangju-eupchi has been determined to be in Gyosan-dong(校山洞) and Chungung-dong(春宮洞), Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do, considering various documents and highland maps. Not only were major cultural assets such as Hanam Iseongsanseong Fortress(二聖山城), Hanam Dongsa Temple site(桐寺址), Gwangju Hyanggyo site(廣州鄕校), but also many small relics of similar period and character found in the surrounding area. Considering the rich archaeological data compared to other regions, the relics of Gyosan-dong, Gwangju Hyanggyo site, and its surrounding areas were understood as medieval urban relics related to Gwangju-mok(廣州牧) during the Goryeo Dynasty. Since the core relics and major facilities in the Gyosan-dong area are interconnected within the main road system connecting the capital and the provinces, the composition of the township and the general range of the village can be estimated through the distribution and road network of the core relics. According to archaeological data, the Gyosan-dong area, centered on the Kyosandong building site, is the central area where the state-run buildings such as government offices and guest houses are located. Gwangju Hyanggyo site and Chungung-dong, west of Deokpungcheon Stream(德豊川), are more likely to be staterun or village living spaces that manage and supervise activities related to living, production, and storage. In particular, there is a possibility that there were government offices and villages related to the transportation and storage of materials using Deokpungcheon Stream. On the other hand, it is most likely that it consists of a flat temple area connecting the front of the guesthouse and the government office to Gyosan-dong Temple Site(校山寺址), Hasachang-dong Temple Site(下司倉洞寺址), and Cheonwangsa Temple Site(天王寺址).
