황혜미 감독의 영화 시나리오 연구 : ˂첫경험˃(1970), ˂슬픈 꽃잎이 질 때˃(1972), ˂관계˃(1972)를 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 황혜미 감독의 영화 시나리오를 검토한 연구의 결과물이다. 황혜미는 1970년대에 데뷔했던 유일한 여성 감독이었으나 그의 작품을 다룬 단독 연구는 아직까지 찾아보기 힘들다. 아마도 그것은 황혜미가 연출을 맡은 세 편의 영화 필름이 현재 모두 소실된 상태라는 이유 때문일 것이다. 이에, 본고에서는 황혜미 감독이 직접 각본을 맡았던 영화 ˂첫경험˃(1970), ˂슬픈 꽃잎이 질 때˃(1972), ˂관계˃(1972)의 시나리오 분석을 통해, 그동안 자세히 언급되지 못했던 그의 작품 세계를 탐구하고 현전하는 자료 내에서 논의 가능한 ‘황혜미 감독론’을 여성 주체의 관점에서 구축하려 하였다. 황혜미가 활동했던 1970년대는 외압과 검열의 시기이기도 했으나 도시화, 근대화, 대중화 시대로의 이행이 진행된 시기이기도 했다. 이러한 배경 아래 1970년대에 본격적으로 부각되기 시작한 한국 여성의 성적 욕망과 섹슈얼리티를 선취하여 담아내었다는 점, 이전과는 달라진 여성들의 앎과 인식 변화를 그려내었다는 점, 여러 시대적 표상을 통해 다양하고 입체적인 여성 캐릭터들을 창조하였다는 점 등에서 황혜미 감독의 영화 텍스트는 한국 여성 감독론의 차원에서 커다란 중요성을 띤다고 하겠다. 나아가 황혜미의 존재는 1950~60년대에 데뷔한 박남옥, 홍은원, 최은희와 1980~90년대를 거치며 등장한 이미례, 임순례, 변영주, 이정향 등 한국 여성 감독의 계보에 가교적 역할을 했다는 점에서 영화사적으로도 의의를 지니기에 충분하다. This paper is a product of research on the film scenarios of director Hwang Hye-Mi. Hwang Hye-Mi was the only female film director who debuted in the 1970s, but there have been no studies that examine her films. A probable reason is that all the three films directed by Hwang are now lost. This study analyzes her film scenarios of the three films: First Experience(1970), When Flowers Sadly Fade Away(1972), and Relationship(1972). With this, the study aims to explore the director's film art that has never been examined in detail and establishes a theory on Director Hwang Hye-Mi which may be discussed based on the extant data from the perspective of the female subject. The 1970s, when Hwang Hye-Mi was active, was a decade of suppression and censorship in South Korea, but it was also marked by a transition to urbanization, modernization, and popularization. The film texts of Hwang Hye-Mi are highly significant for studying Korean film directors in that they preemptively portrayed the sexual desire and sexuality of Korean women that emerged into the spotlight in the 1970s, described the changes in women's knowledge and awareness, and created diverse and vivid female characters through various icons of the times. Furthermore, Hwang Hye-Mi is of great significance in the history of South Korean cinema in that she served as a bridge in the genealogy of South Korean female film directors, between Park Nam-ok, Hong Eun-won, and Choi Eun-hee who debuted in the 1950s and 1960s, and Lee Mi-Rye, Yim Soon-rye, Byun Young-joo, and Lee Jeong-hyang who came on the scene in the 1980s or 1990s.
