Abstract
Due to population ageing, China has proposed a gradual increase retirement delay in 2022. However, there are disputes between the theoretical and practical circles about whether the re-employment of the aged will replace the employment of the young. In this paper, I study the relationship between youth employment of older workers using the Population and Employment yearbook data of the most representative industries in China. I define individuals aged 20 to 24 as youth. men aged 60-64 and women aged 55-64 as old workers. In this paper, model 1 is the regression model of the elderly reemployment population to the youth employment population. Model 1 is verified as a random effect model, and model 2 and model 3 are regressed by gender. Through testing, model 2 is a random effects model and model 3 is a fixed effects model. The empirical results show that old-age re-employment has no significant effect on youth employment. Although the elderly have more work experience than the young, it is undeniable that the education level of the elderly is generally lower than that of the young as the rapid economic development in China, and their ability to learn new things is also generally lower than that of the young. Therefore, even if the elderly are re-employed, they will not replace the young.
