한국 시스템통합(SI)산업의 국제경쟁력 분석에 관한 연구

Abstract

This study aims at presenting the strategies to improve the international competitiveness of the Korean SI industry. To achieve this goal, we proposed a modified framework of Diamond model of Michael Porter in consideration of the characteristics of SI industry and utilized it as an analysis tool for this study. Then we compared the Korean SI industry with that of the U.S, which is a leading country in IT industry throughout the world, based on five variables comprising the model, 1)factor endowment, 2)demand condition, 3)related and supportive industry, 4)firm strategy, constructure, and rivalry, and finally 5)government policy and analyzed the strong and weak points of Korean SI industry over those of the U.S. The data to this study have been collected from various sources like books, research report, related theses, websites, and so on. The study shows that the Korean SI industry already possesses an international competitiveness in two variables, demand condition and government and is a little behind in factor endowment and related and supportive industry in competitiveness. However, with respect to a firm strategy, constructure, and rivalry, some top Korean SI firms like Samsung SDS, LG CNS, and SK C&C have already international competitiveness to a certain level but the majority of small to medium-sized SI firms haven’t. The study also shows that an overall position of the Korean SI industry in a world SI market is getting much elevated these days over the past years. Based on the results, we’ve presented some strategic proposals to improve the international competitiveness of the Korean SI industry and they can be summarized as; 1) to positively train up IT professionals as a core source of competitiveness in IT industry, 2) to enforce the various systematic support for the revitalization of the domestic venture capital industry as a capital market mechanism to the development of SI industry, 3) to foster the domestic S/W industry as a new power source to the growth of IT in the future, 4) to secure a firm-specific competitive advantages, 5) to reinforce the government’s role as a promoter and consolidator in IT industry. The above mentioned proposals are ultimately to help Korean SI firms maintain competitive advantages over foreign competitors and win in a fierce global market competition. Through a series of strategies like this, we hope the international competitiveness of the Korean SI industry to be linked directly with the competitiveness of the nation, to make a great contribution to the economic growth of Korea.
