물리 교과목 기피 원인과 극복 방안

Abstract

본 연구는 학생들이 어렵게 느끼는 물리교과 선택 기피 현상의 원인과 개선 방안에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 물리교과는 현대의 기술문명을 유지하는데 중요한 역할을 하지만 일반적으로 학생들이 배우는 물리교과에 대한 인식은 그다지 긍정적이지 않다. 학생들이 물리교과 선택 기피의 원인으로는 첫째, 기존의 교육방법이 개념전달 위주의 교수-학습 방법이어서 학생들에게는 물리가 어려운 교과목으로 인식 되어있고, 둘째, 대학 입시 제도상 물리교과에서는 높은 등급을 받기 어렵다는 생각을 하고 있다. 셋째, 물리교과는 과정중심의 교육이 아닌 내용중심의 교육이기 때문에 학생들이 어려워한다는 사실을 알게 되었다. 따라서 이에 대한 극복 방안으로 다양한 교수 학습 방식의 개발하여 학생들이 물리교과를 흥미롭고 재미있는 교과라는 인식을 가질 수 있게 교사들이 많은 노력을 하여야 할 것이며, 물리교과와 관련된 진로를 제시하여 학생들이 가지고 있는 물리교과에 대한 부정적 인식을 바꿔야 할 것이다. 또한, 각 대학에 학생 선발의 자율권을 부여하고, 이를 통해 고교 교육의 정상화를 이루도록 해야 할 것이라고 제언한다.; Science and technology play a key role in every field, having significant influence on society, economy, and education of a country. Nevertheless, many high school students in Korea have avoided selecting physics among other science subjects, which may lead to shortage of qualified brains and problem solvers in near future. Therefore, this study analyzed the current science education system and reached the following conclusions with regard to reasons for physics avoidance and strategies to improve the situations: Despite the importance of physics in science and technology, awareness of many students toward physics is not so positive. One of the reasons to avoid selecting physics is that, firstly, a current teaching-learning method which is merely focused on concept delivery made students physics as a hard subject to understand. Secondly, physics is not a subject that students can get a high grade rather easily than any other subjects at the National Entrance Examination. Finally, students feel physics difficult because teaching method of physics is not content-centered, but process-centered. As a strategy for improvement, 1) teachers should make efforts to help students perceive physics as interesting and fun through development of various teaching-learning methods, and 2) autonomy to select student should be given to universities, which in turn may serve to normalize high school education, and 3) career choices related to physics should be presented so that students will change their negative attitude toward physics.
