과학 교사의 역할이 일반계 고등학생들의 진로 선택에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구에서는 일반계 고등학생 1학년생들과 과학교사들을 대상으로 과학교사의 역할이 학생들의 진로선택에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 학생들에게는 계열 선택 특성과 과학에 대한 태도를 조사하고, 그들의 관점에서 과학교사의 역할을 살펴보았다. 교사들에게는 과학교사의 교수자, 생활지도 상담자, 전문가로서의 역할과 과학교육 전반에 관한 사항을 질문하였다. 두 집단이 생각하는 과학교사의 역할을 비교하여 일반계 고등학생들의 진로선택에서 과학교사가 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 일반계 고등학생들의 과학학습에 대한 태도, 과학에 대한 태도, 과학적 태도는 대체로 긍정적이었다. 과학이 어려운 것은 사실이지만 과학 수업의 필요성이나 과학의 사회적 의의에 대해서 긍정적으로 이해하고 있었다. 정의적 영역에서 긍정적인 학생들이라면 과학교사의 역할에 따라 진로선택이 달라질 수 있을 것이라고 판단하였다. 일반계 고등학생들은 자신의 진로 선택을 고교 입학 전에 자신의 적성에 따라 적성과 직업을 고려하여 스스로 결정하였다. 하지만 과학교사가 진로에 대한 정보를 더 제공하고 과학이 재미있으면 진로선택을 바꿀 수도 있다고 하였다. 일반계 고등학생들은 과학교사가 과학 개념을 잘 이해시키고 과학 기초 교육에 충실하다고 보았다. 그렇지만 과학교사들이 진로 정보를 제공하지 않는다고 하였고 과학교사들은 교과시간에 진로 정보를 제공한다고 하는등 서로 상반된 견해를 보여 보다 원활한 의사소통의 필요성을 제기하였다. 따라서 연구 결과를 분석한 결과 일반계 고등학생들의 진로선택의 행동을 유도하기 위해서는 과학교사의 진로 지도의 강화가 요구된다고 하겠다.; The influence of the science teachers on the high school students' choice of their advanced study was discussed. The characteristic of choice and attitude to the science was investigated for the student’s case, and the roll as instructor, consultant and specialist was investigated for the teacher’s case. The summarized results are following. The students' attitude to learning science and science itself was prefixed before entering the high school. Even the science was considered as a difficult course for the students, the necessity of learning science and social status of the science was well informed. The students, however, could be influenced for the choice of their way by the role of science teachers. Most of the students choose their advanced studies in high schools based on their aptitude and job-related information. Interestingly, the students have intentions to change their career decision for the choice of way with interest of science and job-related information by the science teacher’s influence. The students acknowledge the science teacher as a good instructor delivering science concept and basic science knowledge, although they want to get more information about the choices of career by majoring science. This study demonstrated that the roll of science teacher is the most important factor to induce more students into science majors.
