Abstract
Generally the product supplied by second-tier supplier as well as first-tier Supplier is strongly required the product quality in automotive supply chain. So, this study groped for the proper plans to promote the second-tier's quality-oriented APQP activities and the relationship among first-tier supplier and second-tier supplier and tried to propose proper countermeasures in the side of policy-making. This study was conducted to thirty second-tier suppliers of automotive industry by documented questionnaire survey during april~may,2007 in Korea. This questionnaire survey was focused on the level of experimental and skill of development person, on the level of understanding of developed product function, actual condition of APQP activities, actual condition of permitted lead-time for development with general information. The independent variable are the level of experimental and skill of development person, the level of understanding of developed product function, the actual condition of APQP activities, the actual condition of permitted lead-time for development of second-tier supplier. The subordinate variable are the customer(first-tier supplier)' approval times for start of production and the customer's complaints at initial production stage. The data were statistically treated by Minitab program, and the changes of subordinate variables were analyzed by 'the analysis of variance'. This study established several study suppositions and the results from each supposition were arranged as follows; First, the level of experimental and skill of development person was not show a significant different for the effect on each subordinate variable which is the customer(first-tier supplier)' approval times for start of production and the customer's complaints at initial production stage. Second, the level of understanding of developed product function was not show a significant different for the effect on each subordinate variable which is the customer(first-tier supplier)' approval times for start of production and the customer's complaints at initial production stage too. Third, the actual condition of APQP activities in second-tier supplier show a significant different for the effect on each subordinate variable which is the customer(first-tier supplier)' approval times for start of production and the customer's complaints at initial production stage. This means that higher level of proper APQP activities effect on advancing the earlier customer approval and the low customer complaints in initial production stage. Forth, the actual condition of permitted lead-time for development of second- tier supplier show a significant different for the effect on each subordinate variable which is the customer(first-tier supplier)' approval times for start of production and the customer's complaints at initial production stage. This means that higher level of satisfaction on permitted development lead-time to second-tier supplier effect on advancing the earlier customer approval and the low customer complaints in initial production stage. This study insists that proper APQP activities in second-tier supplier and the strong management the effectiveness by customer(first-tier supplier) should increase earlier product quality achievement. Also, insist that proper development lead-time to second-tier supplier should increase earlier product quality achievement too.
