Abstract
Information system is a vital component for a long-term survival and growth of a company. Thus, organizations put a lot of effort and investment in developing a more efficient information system that can integrate the entire functions of the organization. As a result, system integration (SI) projects are carried out in many business firms and public organizations, and its importance is increasing. It is usually assumed that managing projects properly requires a certain amount of experience and knowledge, and the performance of the project management would be affected by the level of knowledge which each organization possesses. This research investigates the linkage and the relationship between the various areas of project management knowledge and the end results of the SI projects. Survey method was used to find out which area of project management knowledge impacts most on the performance of the projects. The results show that most knowledge areas have significant impact on the performance of the SI projects and that there are certain knowledge areas being more important for SI projects than others. The findings suggest that top management needs to invest selectively in the knowledge areas in order to improve their project management capability which will in turn enhance the possibility of SI projects being successful.
