Analysis of Vendor's role to improve IT governance maturity level

Abstract

최근 많은 기업들에 있어 IT 거버넌스에 대한 중요성이 강조되고 있으며 이와 관련하여 다양한 관점에서의 연구가 진행되고 있다. 하지만, IT 아웃소싱이 일반화된 현재의 시장상황에서 기존 IT 거버넌스 연구는 클라이언트 관점에서 이들의 역할을 다룬 것이 대부분이었다. 또한 학계와 산업계 별로 IT 거버넌스에 대해 다양한 정의를 내리고 있고 조직구조 및 이해관계자들의 역할에서 IT 운영에 이르기까지 연구의 관점도 광범위한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 기존 클라이언트 중심의 연구 한계에서 벗어나 기업의 IT 거버넌스 성숙도를 향상하기 위해 벤더가 가지고 있는 자원과 역량을 바탕으로 이들의 역할에 대한 개념적인 모델을 제시하였다. 이는 벤더 관점의 IT 거버넌스 연구에 있어 새로운 시사점을 제시하였다는데 의미를 가진다.; IT governance of the organization has been received focal attention for effective deployment of corporate IT resources. Since the IT governance mostly deals with company’s policies and organizations, past studies in general concentrated on investigating the key components of IT governance, critical success factors, and managerial efforts. However, despite the recent trend of IT outsourcing as a common practice, the vendor’s role has been relatively neglected in IT governance research and practice. In this study, to fill this gap, we developed conceptual model to theorize the IT outsourcing vendor’s role to improve the IT governance maturity of the client firm. We draw upon vendor’s resource capability theories and process model to investigate the necessary capabilities of the vendor, and interaction processes with the client, which impact on the client firm’s IT governance maturity level. The conceptual model proposed in this study provides useful insights for further research on how to enhance IT governance maturity of the firm from IT outsourcing vendor’s perspective.
