Abstract
Due to widespread use of wireless communication services, compact antennas have become a centre of research interest nowadays. Microstrip antennas have been an attractive option due to low profile, low cost, and small size. However, we still need miniaturized antennas for various applications in Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band, especially 2.45 GHz ISM band which is most commonly used, for applications such as Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) nodes, which are often quite small. Single element Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) of very small size 10 mm × 7 mm × 2.5 mm at centre frequency fc = 2.45 GHz has been proposed on a small PCB of size 20 mm × 60 mm to be used for small size applications such as WSN nodes. A novel T-shaped slot, in radiating element, helped to miniaturize the radiating element to much smaller size than existing compact designs.
