There is to occur precipitation of accumulated earth and sand or pollutants in the inside wall of the stream flown in from the main stream to the affluent. This is because that the separation area where the secondary flow occurs occur owing to features of the tributary flow of an open channel. In this study, to examine features of the separation area occurring from the tributary flow, two-dimensional shallow water equations numerical model able to calculate composition of free water surface and horizontal flux in the upper stream were used.
Through comparison of the results of a tributary flow waterway by Hsu(2002), Ramamurthy(2007) and others with those of numerical simulation, by carrying out numerical simulation, and through a relative error for each value, the reliability could be obtained. In addition, through the ratio of inflows to outflows at the main stram of the waterway, the relative relation to the size of the separation area occurring at the tributary point.
In this study, to reduce the separation area occurring from the tributary flow, the size of the separation area was reduced through adjusted size of the waterway of the main stream where a tributary flow starts, and to reduce the separation area owing to changes of a rapid angle occurring thereby, the flow was made slow by connecting the corner points where the extension part and the tributary flow meet. That is, it was possible to reduce the separation area through the final waterway adjustment by finding the scope of waterway changes in order to minimize the separation area.
