학벌주의에 대한 학부모의 인식이 사교육비 지출에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 학벌주의에 대한 학부모의 인식이 사교육비 지출에 미치는 영향을 규명하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 우천식 편(2004)의 “사교육의 효과, 수요 및 그 영향요인에 관한 연구”(한국개발연구원)가 수집한 자료를 분석했다. 표본 학부모가 지출하는 월 평균 사교육비가 학벌주의에 대한 인식에 따라서 어떻게 다른가를 회귀분석 방법을 이용해 분석했다. 그 결과, 출신 학교에 따른 차별의 심각성에 대한 인식은 사교육비 지출에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 대학 서열화의 심각성에 대한 인식은 사교육비 지출에 부분적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 기업의 채용 기준에 대한 인식은 사교육비 지출에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 같은 학교 재학생의 사교육 참여 비율과 월 평균 사교육비에 대한 예측은 월 평균 사교육비에 대한 강력한 설명변수로 나타났으나, 인과관계의 시간적 선후에 이론의 여지가 있다. 기존의 연구에서 사교육 수요를 발생시키는 주요 요인으로 제시되어 온 부모의 사회경제적 지위, 학생의 학업성취도, 거주 지역 등의 영향은 본 연구에서도 매우 큰 것으로 나타났다. 그 중에서도 월 평균 가구 소득, 거주 지역, 모의 교육수준의 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이런 결과는 사교육 수요의 큰 부분이 계급 경쟁의 측면에서 설명될 수 있음을 의미하는 것이다.; The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of parents' perception of hierarchy of universities on shadow education expenditure. For this, data from Woo, Cheonsik(editor), 2004, "A Study on the Effect of and Demand for Private Tutoring and the Contributing Factors Contributing Them"(Korea Development Institute) is analyzed. The change of monthly average of shadow education expenditure which sample parents spend depending on their perception of hierarchy of universities is analyzed with regression analysis. Findings are followings. Perception of discrimination over alma mater has an effect on shadow education expenditure. Perception of hierarchy of universities has a partial effect on shadow education expenditure. Perception of recruitment standards of corporations does not have an effect on shadow education expenditure. Modeling factor has the biggest effect on shadow education expenditure but the order of causal relationship is controversial. The SES, achievement, region which have been contended as major factors of demand for shadow education, appear to have a big effect, also in this analysis. Especially, that of monthly average of family income, region, mother's education level are significant. It suggests that demand for shadow education can be largely explained as a matter of class competition.
